Factories! so many and so ugly.

We drove a lot of our road trip on state highways, for a more scenic and authentic expeirence in each state. Yet, we have had to take the interstate to gain some ground. The mid west was a place that we just kinda wanted to get through. Though it was my first time driving through this area and I did want to see it. I am now satisfied with having seen it, but don't want to again. I found it generic, and well a little sad with all the factories, refineries, and abandoned buildings. I noticed that most of the factories were located by bodies of water, lake, river, or streams. Which just makes me cringe thinking of run off, pollution, and environmental issues.
